A recap of Flourish + Thrive which was held on Wednesday, 28 June 2023.
This was my first time hosting a business networking event and although I’ve been involved with Gen Collective organising events for the Newcastle business community for 5 years, it felt like a new experience.
Why?
The idea behind Flourish + Thrive was to create a meeting place for small business owners to come together and talk about the highs and lows of business. Despite working across many different industries, the experiences we have as small business owners are all quite similar.
But sometimes, we can feel alone or isolated in our experiences in small business and bringing a small group together to talk and share experiences helps us to feel more connected and leaving more inspired about our businesses.
Who?
I wanted to also make sure there were lots of practical ways for business owners to improve and think about their business.
The panel of speakers included:
- Sophie Brenton of SB Business Services: Bookkeeper and Newcastle’s resident work-life balance enthusiast. Sophie is a business management guru and helps her clients take the stress out their back-end finances.
- Adrienne Donnelly of Organised By Adrienne: Virtual Assistant with a passion (and serious knack) for all things organisation. Adrienne helps business owners declutter their mental load and providing systems and services to streamline their business.

- Roby Marsh co-founder of Creator Club and host of the True to You Podcast: Ruby was our MC and helped uncover our personal stories about success and challenges in business.
